Q&A

Bubba:Who or what inspires you when you’re writing/producing?

Connor Cassidy : On a day to day basis I’m always writing, whether it’s random thoughts that just pop up or different ideas as results of what I’m seeing at the time, so when itcomes to sitting down with different beats and what not it’s basically me trying to organize the confusion. It’s nearly always mood related, so in order to write with a certain emotion I have to be feeling it at that moment for it to come out clear and concise. In terms of general inspiration, just keeping the mentality that I can create whatever world I want through my music is inspiring in itself. Every time I write I try and make it as unique to me as possible, and the reward comes when someone can really connect with it. That’s what inspires me the most.

Bubba:What is your favorite part about being in the rap industry?

Connor Cassidy: Definitely the freedom and the shows. By freedom I mean that as a completely independent artist there’s no limits to where I can take it creatively, and there’s no boundaries on anything. I can speak my mind without any interference, and in an industry completely defined by social trend and opinion, I can bring something new/genuine to the table if I play it right. As an artist you become your own boss, and there’s no boundaries. As far as shows go, I really couldn’t ask for a better feeling. Every essence of live performance, from the actual performance of the songs to the crowd reaction makes for some of the best times I’ve had, and to have a crowd really get behind your message as an artist is a rare and beautiful thing.

Bubba:What is your ultimate goal/why do you do what you do?

Connor Cassidy: Oh man haha. My ultimate goal consists of a lot, but I’ll try and simplify it as much as I can. When I was growing up, the musical icons I gravitated towards were individuals I looked up into in a way and connected with. Sure I went to school, but these artists served as my real teachers and set the foundations of how I saw the world, acted in it, and how I molded my perspectives and lifestyle. Reflecting on that, I look at it not even as a goal, but as obligation to do the same for the kids in the future. To offer them an escape from the problems we get caught up in, and to remind them how immense and positive the future really is, and to inspire hope when it seems hopeless. That’s the big goal, to impact my generation in a positive light by inspiring positivity, activism, and patience. Beyond all else, that’s what’s most important in my eyes. To positively impact lives, leave my mark, and keep my family healthy, optimistic, & situated. Those are the goals.

Bubba:What’s one thing you would like people / your fans to know about you?

Connor Cassidy: That I’m not a power-hungry artist that would ever trade honesty for ignorance in order to gain status in this corrupted industry. Although it’ll take time, I just want people to know who’s really got the right intentions, and who’s really willing to give up side-benefits in order to fight for what’s real. To see so many emcees and musicians in general fill their art with violence, drug glorification, and a long list of other bs while meanwhile they preach love and peace is a contradiction I never want to be a part of. I get tripped up over that stuff all the time. Don’t sacrifice your art just to get to a higher status or hit a higher quota, ever. As it is we underestimate how powerful this art form in particular effects the youth and the globe as a whole, so don’t act like the gun talk, drug talk, murder talk, etc. is something you standby when we all know what’s right and wrong. That’s it, case & point.

Bubba:What are you working on right now?

Connor Cassidy: Right now I’m working on a free album called “Can’t Forget.” I’ve remade the album two times now, and still don’t have a release date because I want it to be the best it can be and more. On top of that, we’re working on a bunch of singles for the summer with videos to accompany them, along with doing many collaborations and visual work for other artists such as Kyle Bent, Sammy Adams, DJ Snake, Cignature, and Sean Mula to name a few. Expect a lot of collaborations, a lot of vids, a lot of freestyles, a lot of genre mixing from trap-rap to rock-rap, and overall just expect a completely new approach. Also expect a lot of visual, production, and directing work for other artists as well. Lot to take on but I’ll do my best haha.

Bubba:What is your favorite track that you’ve put out so far?

Connor Cassidy: This record produced by Nine Diamond called “Lies” that we released about a week ago. I’m just a huge fan of the production on that, along with the emotion it projects as a whole. The video for it is on deck so keep a lookout.
